Welcome Day 2020

Welcome to Crompton House Sixth Form’s

Virtual Welcome Day

We are sorry that you can’t join us in person, to spend time in your Sixth Form Centre, meet the teachers who will be your A Level teachers in the Autumn Term, or visit the newly opened Ridley Block where there are bespoke facilities for students studying A Level Product Design, as well as spacious new classrooms for English and Maths.

We hope that by browsing through the information and videos on these pages at your leisure, you can refresh your memory about Crompton House Sixth Form. We are excited to meet you as Sixth Formers in September – we hope you are looking forward to joining us.

In these pages, you’ll find out what to expect in September, get a reminder about our facilities and the opportunities available to you and also you’ll be able to hear about your chosen subjects from our subject specialists and from past and present students. You can also take a Tour of the school, hosted by Natalie and Abdullah, your new Head Girl and Boy, and explore the Sixth Form Centre virtually, using interactive photos.

Of course, you can also browse the other subject options if you have changed your mind about your choices. If you would like to talk to one of our team about changing your subject choice, please contact us.

There are some great videos for this Virtual Welcome Day, including from the Sixth Form Team (Dr Whitworth, Dr Pannell and Mrs Atkins), from Matty and Ella our 2019-20 Head Boy and Head Girl, as well as for each subject.

Our suggested viewing order

On each subject page there are also links to some pre-course material – you will have already received this from your chosen subjects, but if you want to look at material from other subjects that you might be considering, it is all available for you. There are also links to the exam boards for each subject. We recommend to our Year 12s that they download their course specifications from the exam boards early in the Autumn term, so you can get ahead now if you want to.

We hope you enjoy finding out more about studying at Crompton House Sixth Form. We look forward to seeing you on Results Day in August and then as part of the Crompton House Family in September. Given the current global situation, the exact nature of how Sixth Form starts in September may be different to normal, but we will keep you updated with any developments.

Frequently asked questions

How will the Virtual Welcome Day actually work?

Essentially you will be able to pick and choose what you read, which videos you watch, in order to get a flavour for what Crompton House Sixth Form, and the different subjects, have to offer.

I haven’t done any work for 3 months, should I be worried?

Students will have done a varying amount of work over the last 3 months, the key now is to start/continue accessing the pre A level material which has been sent out to you.  You can view pre-course material in other subjects on this site if you are still undecided about your subjects, however you need to remember that subject choices now need to fit on the option blocks that were sent out.

Will Sixth Form be open as normal in September?

Unfortunately, the answer at the moment, is we don’t know.  It is certainly or intention to have the new Year 12s back straight away, but clearly we will have to follow Government guidance.  We will keep you all updated as soon as we know more.

How will school deal with social distancing in September?

We will be following Government guidelines and setting up the Sixth Form Centre, classrooms and timetables accordingly.

What is happening about results day and enrolment?

We will send out more information about results day, but the plan is to have results collection and then enrolment on the same day, with staff on hand to help discuss queries about results, options, subjects choices, the correct pathways and iron out any other details you need.

Do I have a guaranteed place at CHS?

You have a conditional offer, which means as long as you meet the entry requirements for entry into the Sixth Form (Average point score of 4.0 and above, including a 4 in Maths and English Language) and the specific entry requirements for individual subjects (e.g. an average point score of 5.5+ for certain subjects) then the answer is YES.  Any issues with not achieving some or all of the requirements can be discussed on results day.

I haven’t got my uniform yet, what shall I do?

Many of the shops where you would purchase your uniform from: Next, H&M, Topshop/Topman, Burton, River Island, John Lewis etc are currently operating online and are reopening now, so a full range of grey suits should be available.

I still have a question that hasn't been answered.
